Recognised as one of the AFL’s pre-eminent key defenders, Gibson continues to take on and beat the best forwards in the competition.
Originally from the TAC Cup’s Oakleigh Chargers, Gibson enjoyed an excellent 2004 season with North Melbourne’s then VFL affiliate Port Melbourne. Selected at pick 7 in the 2004 NAB AFL Rookie Draft, Gibson’s continued good form saw him make the transition from rookie to senior list at Arden Street by the end of 2005.
Gibson managed a good return of 11 games in 2006 as a running defender. In 2009, he played every game and finished fifth in the Kangaroos Best and Fairest.
At the end of 2009, Gibson joined Hawthorn via a trade, filling a key defensive post for the Hawks, the club he barracked for growing up.

Quickly becoming an integral member of the lineup, Gibson overcame a hamstring injury and flourished in 2011.

Selected in the All Australian squad of 40 players, he finished second in the Peter Crimmins Medal for Hawthorn’s Best and Fairest and collected the coveted Most Consistent and Best Finals Player awards. He also passed the 100 AFL game milestone.

Off-field, Gibson features prominently in the media, as a regular on The Footy Show, Before the Game and Game Day.

Gibson has also showcased his passion for fashion and as a Swisse Spring Racing Ambassador for 2011 Flemington Carnival. He is one of Asics main AFL ambassadors also.
