Eamon Sullivan
Eamon Sullivan is recognized as one of Australia’s most exciting stars of the pool, seen by many as the swimmer that will help re-establish our men’s swim team as world leaders once again.
The one-time World Record holder in both the 50m and 100m freestyle, Eamon is hot property and hungry to reclaim his status as the undisputed fastest man in the pool in the lead up to the 2012 London Olympics.
He is one step closer to this goal after overcoming another setback in the form of hip surgery six weeks out from the 2010 Commonwealth Games trials. Eamon beat the odds to win the 100m Freestyle at the National Championships and book his place on the team.
Eamon made his Australian Team debut at the 2004 Athens Olympics as a member of the 4 x 100m Freestyle relay. From a relay swimmer to the leading man, Eamon swam his way to the top of Australian sprinting before conquering the world, and becoming World Record holder in the 50m and 100m Freestyle in early 2008.
At his second Olympics, Eamon broke the 100m World Record twice. On the opening day in Beijing, Eamon lowered the mark as the lead-off swimmer in the Men’s 4 x 100 metre relay, final. Australia claimed silver and Sullivan claimed the distinction of being the only man to beat Michael Phelps, who led off the US team . By Games end, Phelps was the most successful Olympian of all-time, making Sullivan’s swim all the more meritorious.
Later in the Games, Eamon would break the World Record in the 100 metre Semi Final, eventually claiming a second Silver in the final when touched out by Frenchman Alain Bernard by less than half a second. In all, Eamon came away with two Silver and one Bronze medal in Beijing, the best performance by a male athlete on the Australian swim team,
Out of the pool, 24 year-old Eamon has become one of Australia’s most recognizable faces. Throughout his journey, Eamon has been and will continue to be supported by a great team of corporate partners including Uncle Toby’s, Davenport, Speedo and Telstra.
Post-Beijing, Eamon has been able to bring together two of his keen interests in cooking and the media as a contestant on Network Ten’s Celebrity Masterchef. The Perth native has proved to be a hit in the kitchen, impressing the judges to win the competition and be crowed Australia's first Celebrity Masterchef.
Eamon is currently trainng hard and will be racing in Europe as par tof his preparation for the 2010 Pan Pac Championships in August and the Commonwealth Games in October.
